Ivory Coast Entry Requirements
Visa, immigration, and customs information
Visa Requirements
Entry permissions vary by nationality. Find your category below.
Ivory Coast's visa policy categorizes travelers based on nationality. Many visitors can enter visa-free or obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) online, while others must apply for a traditional visa before travel.
Citizens of certain countries can enter Ivory Coast without a visa for short stays.
Passport must be valid for at least 6 months. The 90-day stay is for tourism or business; longer stays require a residence permit.
The ETA is a mandatory online pre-authorization for citizens of many countries who are visa-exempt but still require approval before travel.
Cost: Approximately XOF 49,000 (around €75 or $80)
The ETA is not a visa; it is a pre-authorization linked to your passport. You must still present your passport, proof of accommodation, return ticket, and proof of funds at immigration.
Citizens of countries not listed in the visa-free or ETA categories must obtain a visa from an Ivorian embassy or consulate before travel.
Processing times can vary; apply well in advance of your trip. Some nationalities may also be required to obtain an entry authorization from the Direction de la Police des Frontières in Abidjan before the visa is issued.
Arrival Process
Upon arrival at an Ivorian airport (e.g., Félix-Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan) or land border, travelers will proceed through immigration and customs. The process is generally straightforward but can be slow during peak times.

Health Requirements
Health requirements are strictly enforced to protect public health. Proof of vaccination is mandatory for entry, and other precautions are strongly recommended.
Required Vaccinations
- Yellow Fever - Certificate required for all travelers aged 9 months and over.
Recommended Vaccinations
- Routine vaccines (MMR, Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis, Polio, Varicella)
- Hepatitis A and B
- Typhoid
- Rabies (for extended stays or adventure travel)
- Meningitis (ACWY) - if traveling during the dry season (Dec-June)

Health Insurance
Travel health insurance with medical evacuation coverage is not mandatory but is highly recommended. Healthcare costs for foreigners can be high, and medical evacuation may be necessary for serious conditions.

Special Situations
Additional requirements for specific circumstances.
Children must have their own passport and, if required, their own ETA/visa. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for children over 9 months. If a child is traveling with only one parent or without parents, it is advisable to carry a notarized letter of consent from the non-accompanying parent(s) or legal guardian(s), along with copies of their passports. This is not always requested but can prevent delays.
Pets (dogs and cats) require a valid veterinary health certificate issued within 5 days of travel, proving rabies vaccination (administered at least 30 days prior to entry) and general good health. An import permit may also be required. Pets must be microchipped. Contact the Ivorian Ministry of Livestock and Animal Resources for the latest regulations well in advance.
To stay longer than 90 days, you must apply for a residence permit (Carte de Séjour) at the Direction de la Police des Frontières in Abidjan before your initial 90-day period expires. This process requires various documents, including proof of local address, financial means, and sometimes a medical certificate. Starting the process early is important.
