Ivory Coast Entry Requirements

Ivory Coast Entry Requirements

Visa, immigration, and customs information

Important Notice Entry requirements can change at any time. Always verify current requirements with official government sources before traveling.
Information last reviewed October 2024. Always verify with official government sources before traveling.
Travelers entering Ivory Coast must meet specific entry requirements, which include a valid passport, appropriate visa or travel authorization, and compliance with health regulations. Upon arrival, visitors go through immigration control where their travel documents are verified, and they may be asked about the purpose and duration of their stay. It is essential to have all necessary documents organized and readily accessible to ensure a smooth process. Before traveling, visitors should verify the latest entry rules, as policies can change, and ensure their passport has sufficient validity and blank pages.

Visa Requirements

Entry permissions vary by nationality. Find your category below.

Ivory Coast's visa policy categorizes travelers based on nationality. Many visitors can enter visa-free or obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) online, while others must apply for a traditional visa before travel.

Visa-Free Entry
Typically up to 90 days

Citizens of certain countries can enter Ivory Coast without a visa for short stays.

Includes
All ECOWAS member states (e.g., Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal) Morocco Singapore Malaysia Philippines

Passport must be valid for at least 6 months. The 90-day stay is for tourism or business; longer stays require a residence permit.

Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA/eVisa)
Up to 90 days

The ETA is a mandatory online pre-authorization for citizens of many countries who are visa-exempt but still require approval before travel.

Includes
United States United Kingdom Canada Australia European Union member states Japan South Korea
How to Apply: Apply online via the official RAVEC (Autorité de Régulation des Visas Électroniques de Côte d'Ivoire) portal. Processing typically takes 24-72 hours. Approval is sent via email and must be printed or available electronically for presentation upon arrival.
Cost: Approximately XOF 49,000 (around €75 or $80)

The ETA is not a visa; it is a pre-authorization linked to your passport. You must still present your passport, proof of accommodation, return ticket, and proof of funds at immigration.

Visa Required
Varies by visa type (tourist, business, etc.)

Citizens of countries not listed in the visa-free or ETA categories must obtain a visa from an Ivorian embassy or consulate before travel.

How to Apply: Apply in person at an Ivorian diplomatic mission. Requirements usually include a completed application form, passport photos, flight itinerary, hotel booking, proof of financial means, and the visa fee.

Processing times can vary; apply well in advance of your trip. Some nationalities may also be required to obtain an entry authorization from the Direction de la Police des Frontières in Abidjan before the visa is issued.

Arrival Process

Upon arrival at an Ivorian airport (e.g., Félix-Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan) or land border, travelers will proceed through immigration and customs. The process is generally straightforward but can be slow during peak times.

1
Health Check
You may be asked to present proof of yellow fever vaccination and potentially other health documents.
2
Immigration Control
Present your passport, printed ETA (if applicable), and completed entry/exit card. The officer will stamp your passport and may ask questions about your visit.
3
Baggage Claim & Customs
Collect your luggage and proceed through the customs channel (green for nothing to declare, red for goods to declare). Your bags may be scanned or inspected.

Documents to Have Ready

Must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry and have at least two blank pages.

Required based on your nationality. The ETA must be printed or available on a mobile device.

Special Situations

Additional requirements for specific circumstances.

Traveling with Children

Children must have their own passport and, if required, their own ETA/visa. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for children over 9 months. If a child is traveling with only one parent or without parents, it is advisable to carry a notarized letter of consent from the non-accompanying parent(s) or legal guardian(s), along with copies of their passports. This is not always requested but can prevent delays.

Traveling with Pets

Pets (dogs and cats) require a valid veterinary health certificate issued within 5 days of travel, proving rabies vaccination (administered at least 30 days prior to entry) and general good health. An import permit may also be required. Pets must be microchipped. Contact the Ivorian Ministry of Livestock and Animal Resources for the latest regulations well in advance.

Extended Stays

To stay longer than 90 days, you must apply for a residence permit (Carte de Séjour) at the Direction de la Police des Frontières in Abidjan before your initial 90-day period expires. This process requires various documents, including proof of local address, financial means, and sometimes a medical certificate. Starting the process early is important.
